Welcome! Beacon Preservation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of lighthouses and their environments for educational, cultural, recreational, and historical preservation purposes. Our mission is to ensure that communities, civic organizations, and educational and research institutions are able to enjoy access to these important icons of nautical history. |
Be A Keeper... and receive a lighthouse print AND become eligible for a 24-hour “Keeper Visit” (complete with transportation to and from North Haven, Maine) at Goose Rocks Light for up to eight guests during June 2009. Become a Guardian and be eligible for an extended Guardian of the Light experience (from two to ten days, depending on time of year) for up to eight guests at Goose Rocks Light. View our new online Calendar for Goose Rock availability! |
Restoration and Education We have restored several historic properties throughout New England, including the 1865 Greek Neoclassical former Savings Bank of Ansonia building (our corporate headquarters in Connecticut) and Goose Rocks Lighthouse in the Fox Island Thorofare of North Haven, Maine. Our latest acquisition, the Penfield Reef Light off of Bridgeport, Connecticut, will be the place-based learning site of Beacon's new Green Light Academy, a high school level sustainable energy educational program we're planning for Summer 2009. Check back for more details soon! |
Community Involvement In June 2008, Lowes Home Improvement granted our current wish list for Goose Rocks with $10,000 worth of equipment and building materials. See our Photo Gallery. We also enjoy close ties with area schools and universities with whom we collaborate on education and research. |
IT'S RAFFLE TIME! Support Green Light Academy and YOU could win a holiday weekend at Goose Rocks Lighthouse in North Haven, Maine for up to six people! Unfortunately, our 2010-2011 grant funding has been cut by 30% this year due to the State budget crisis. This summer, we have had to reduce the number of GLA students in our programs by 1/3, and now face a major challenge in funding our start-up GLA Maine program. Our students need your help [go to video]! So, this year we are sponsoring two raffles and giving away TWO separate holiday weekends to the lucky winners!
1. FOURTH OF JULY Weekend (July 3-5, 2010) "Be A Keeper" Stay at Goose Rocks Lighthouse 2. LABOR DAY Weekend (September 4-6, 2010) "Be A Keeper" Stay at Goose Rocks Lighthouse
Each stay is a $4,000 value: winner and up to 6 guests can enjoy private use of the 3-bedroom offshore lighthouse for three days and two nights, with roundtrip boat transportation between North Haven island and the Goose Rocks included. We'll even throw in a lobster dinner! Buy it now! or Stop by Captain's Cove in Bridgeport, CT to get a ticket from our GLA students and representatives. We'll be at the red and white lighthouse kiosk!
