Beacon Preservation has received notification of nearly $1M in CT State Department of Education Interdistrict Grant Funding for its environmental educational programs! Beacon's brand new program, the Green Light Academy is now accepting applications for 70 high school students to attend the GLA July 5-31st, 2009 at Western Connecticut State University. The Green Light Academy program, which allows students to increase their academic skills in math, science, and technology through applied learning activities and "green collar" skill building, is also made possible by a grant from the 1772 Foundation. GLA students will help design and implement the sustainable energy solar and wind system for the Penfield Reef Lighthouse in the Black Rock Harbor of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Public High School students from Bridgeport, Norwalk, New Haven, Stratford, and Oxford are eligible for this program. For more information or to apply online, visit www.greenlightacademy.org.
