20 Young Women get to “See the Light” in Maine: August 1-14, 2010
Set on the picturesque island of North Haven in Maine’s Fox Island Thorofare, Green Light Academy Maine (also known as “Green Light AcadeMaine” or GLA Maine), is a residential academic summer program promoting sustainable energy and environmental science education for up to 20 young women (14-18 years old, incoming high school students grades 10-12).  One of several summer programs offered by the nonprofit organization Beacon Preservation, Inc., GLA Maine takes place from Sunday, August 1 through Saturday, August 14, 2010.

Inspired by our highly successful Green Light Academy in Connecticut, GLA Maine replicates the original GLA-CT program in its focus on sustainability through environmental conservation, hands-on ecology studies, and green-collar skill-building.  GLA Maine, however, is unique in that its curriculum is more specifically designed for its small class of 20 select female students and tailored to the specific marine environment and unspoiled nature of North Haven’s remote island location. (Population 350)
