About Us
Beacon Preservation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of lighthouses and their environments for educational, cultural, recreational, and historical preservation purposes. Our mission is to ensure that communities, civic organizations, and educational and research institutions are able to enjoy educational enrichment, cultural events, and recreational opportunities through reasonable (but carefully controlled for environmental impact and protection purposes) access to these important icons of nautical history.
Established in 2006 as "light house-specific" offshoot of Parrish House, Inc. (a historic preservation corporation established in 1988) Beacon Preservation's Board of Directors and Steering Committees are comprised of environmentalists, educators, scientists, attorneys, architects (landscape and structural design), engineers (mechanical and civil), grant writers, and professional historical preservationists who donate their time and resources in the interest of preserving lighthouses. All of our officers and project-leaders are volunteer; no one receives a salary because we are all devoted to an ethos of "pay-it-forward" – we seek to preserve architecture for future generations while allowing our lighthouses and historic properties to give back to the communities that support them.
